Reference:
The first vivid memory of reference for a person would date back to his school days when he was expected to answer a question on a passage or a para in a lengthy lesson in ‘Reference’ to the context of the specific chapter.
The meaning and the world revolving around it has not quite changed even for elders. A Reference is generally made in the context or vis-à-vis a bigger canvas – a lengthy chapter or a society for that matter.
In a raw sense, we can say India in Reference to South Asia is a big brother, while in Reference to Asia will be an important country at par with countries like China but in Reference to global context is a developing country.
Again in Reference to a prediction made by a globally renowned economist in 2003 or in Reference to BRIC countries along with India, Brazil Russia and China, it’s a country that can turn a powerful nation by 2050.
A forecast originally made by Goldman Sachs Investment Bank in 2003 it was argued forcefully and claimed facts, figures and importantly optimism that the economic potential of these four countries is such that they may become among the four most dominant economies by the year 2050. The thesis was proposed by the company’s global economist Jim O’Neil.
Predictably, it was received with a sentiment of euphoria in these countries as probably for the first time they saw an opportunity in outshining the hitherto established economic super powers. It will be “good and a heart warming” session if the BRIC nations turn out to be strong and affluent the way forecasts have been made.
Reference is an important terminology in the context of library and would relate to things like dictionary, books and shelfs based on subjects, choices etc.
In Library, reference books also means the sections of books which a library member cannot take away. These books are to be retained in the shelf only – to be seen and read in the library and taken note of if necessary. These days, library helps in getting xerox copies of the concerned pages also.
For writes or books and those in the publishing world, References are denoted by a series of numbers starting with ISBN.
Similarly, we have References in other spheres of life and studies also. They would include languages --- software spehere would also denote language software.
In the business world Retail sector these days have discovered their own branches of References.
Retail, in all possible flavors, has taken the Indian market by storm as well. The IT industry is no exception to the trend and has begun to see its share of development too. In the last few years, there’s been significant growth in this space, with many vendors and distributors venturing into the arena and leaving direct impact on the dealers’ business.
According to a report by IDC, India will remain the fastest-growing country in hardware spending worldwide in 2007. The point to be noted is that a considerable amount of demand for IT hardware is coming from the consumer segment. This demand is being catered to by the retail outlets, for instance, Acer Malls, HCL’s Digilife stores, Samsung Digital Homes and Plazas, Neoteric Xplore, Sahara’s IT Junction among others. According to IDC’s India Top 10 IT market predictions 2007, one of the prediction is that IT retailing will undergo extensive experimentation in 2007. The year is likely to see IT vendors trying out many new approaches in product retailing. The efforts will focus on pulling SOHO and individual customers for converting them into window shoppers.
The growing competition, shrinking margins, and the need to innovate are driving several partners to explore newer frontiers, and they are increasingly entering the retail sector as a viable alternative.
Undoubtedly, many partners in upcountry have capitalized on the present retail boom and are steadily moving up the ladder. In fact, reports from other cities in Uttar Pradesh or for that matter hubs like Siliguri say that IT resellers are increasingly leaning towards retail as a means to "improve profit".
There''''''''''''''''s a lot more competition - along with squeezing profit margins - in this business. This forces us to do new things that will help us survive. I am planning to enter into retailing and expand business in the SMB segment.
However, to succeed in the retail sector, partners need to have a proper strategy in place, including the keenness to invest in services and manpower training, say industry watchers.
Today, the IT market is witnessing tremendous traction in the favor of retailing, due to an increased spending in IT hardware spending and retail. Researchers estimate large-format retail (LFR) to account for approximately 6 percent of the total retail market going on to be close to $ 350 billion. Indian retail market is considered to be one of the top potential retail destinations by many of the top research firms like AT Kearney.
Other such spheres will be linguistics, logic, computer science, art, and scholarship.
Similarly, in Reference to E-governance, we do talk about a growing space despite bottlenecks.
When the Budget for the fiscal 2007-08 was presented by the Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the dealers did react to it with a lukewarm response. Only point that had left any silver lining for them was the mention of enhanced push to e-governance initiative. But several players in the channel found a little substance in it too while the vendors smelt golden goose.
Traditionally, government vertical has been a forte of large vendors like Microsoft and Oracle and even desi giant HCL for instance who would directly woo various government sectors for using their computing platform and other technological offerings. This has been discouraging the channel but the new budget promising greater impetus to e-governance meant there will be a high level of mass application deployment of IT opening the floodgates for the channels to pitch in with "localized applications and services."
E-governance is one space which has attained good momentum in recent times. To cater to such requirements we have a dedicated vertical team for government based out and operating from Delhi.
Even distributors admit about growing opportunities for the channels. “The vendors basically want the governments to use their technology in return of good payments. I don''''''''''''''''t see any reason they discouraging partners and distributors especially to ensure
The common refrain has been that the dealers do not have to just sit and wait passively to see what unfolds at the other end. It’s time partners take a proactive approach and begin taking concrete steps and start involving sincerely in parleys with the vendors and the government for exploring avenues of partnership.
